(Washington, DC) -- Secretary of State John Kerry calls Middle East peace talks a "new moment of possibility." Representatives of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas began direct negotiations at the State Department this week. The reps joined Secretary Kerry for a meeting with President Obama at the White House. Afterward, Kerry warned of a difficult road ahead but said, quote, "We can get there."
Kerry said the U.S. will continue to be a "facilitator" as talks move back to the Middle East. He called for "reasonable compromise in the name of peace." Kerry said the U.S. remains firmly committed to a two-state solution which ensures security for Israelis and Palestinians.
